![]() Not just the pricing, but the naming scheme too changes this year. These two replace the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus in Apple's lineup, while at the same time move the iPhone X heritage forward. These two are the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Plus - oops sorry - iPhone XS Max. Along with the number from the iPhone name, Apple has also got rid of the Plus moniker this year. The finish of the iPhone XS is top class. It shines like a jewel, but I feel that while last year when we first saw it in the iPhone X this design was a novelty, this year it looks a too familiar. The iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max design looks too sophisticated, too polished for its own good. I would have preferred to see some change here, may be a bit of playfulness through a multi-coloured button or some changes in lines, even the lines around the camera module. The iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max are too familiar because we have seen and used the iPhone X for nearly a year now.īoth the phones fit well in hands, although people with smaller hands will not like the iPhone XS Max with its 6.5-inch screen. But compared to the design of the iPhone 8 series, and particularly the iPhone 8 Plus which was too big despite its (now) small 5.5-inch screen, the iPhone XS is a fairly modern design. In fact, due to its round edges, it feels better in hand compared to a phone like the Galaxy Note 9. The screens of both the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max are brilliant. There is a lot of tech stuff inside the two phones. For example, Apple is using screens with true-tone colours and 120MHz refresh rate in the two XS phones. Both technologies make a difference when you are using the phones. The colours are bright and there is a kind of fluidity that makes as if the content is floating on the screen. The effect is very subtle, and also present in the iPhone X, and there is no other phone that can match it so far. If the design and the screen in the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max are similar to what we got last year in the iPhone X, where is the newness in Apple's new phones? That is under the hood, and something that we will be able to talk about in detail only in the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max review. The two phones come with new Apple A12 Bionic processor, which is made using 7nm fab tech. The new iPhones are first phones to have this kind of processor. Theoretically, the new A12 Bionic makes the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max the fastest phones ever in the history. But what does that mean for users? This I hope to answer in the review. From whatever little time I have spent with the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max so far, I don't think performance is going to be an area where the new iPhones will give anyone a reason to complain. ![]() What else? Battery life is better in the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max.
